Jackson Federal Building Auditorium

CNJA Architects

Size:

4,000 square-feet.

Scope:

Analysis involved procedures for measuring reverberation time which helped determine the ability to clearly understand speech. A result that is too high will have a detrimental effect allowing sound energy to linger and build on itself creating higher overall sound levels.

Solutions:

Initially we recommended that panels be placed on both sides of the auditorium. Panels can have approximate dimensions of 7’Wx10’H. Four panels are to be placed on the west wall over the windows with 3 panels on the opposite side. Laterally the panels were placed so they do not mirror either wall, staggering the panels achieved this result. This helped prevent the effect of flutter echo between the parallel walls. As the design progressed, recommendations for layout and placement of materials were provided in the form of elevation details and CAD drawings.
